Many people think that if you’re in the health and wellness industry that you are perfect in every way. Healthy with no faults, have never had a food craving, been overweight or struggled to keep control in your crazy life. WRONG!
I think that most people try to teach others to be healthy when they’ve made a ton of their own mistakes and want to help other people NOT mess up as badly as they did. At least that has been my experience. Before I decided to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I worked with a Holistic Health Counselor that met with clients pretty much the same way that I do now. I thought that she was perfect and as it turns out, she had battled too.
After studying Holistic Nutrition and connecting with other class mates, I thought that they were perfect too. After really getting to know them though, I realized that they had also battled with something. What I came to realize is that if someone really cares about other people and they go through struggles to be healthy, many of them will try to help others in some way, shape or form. I’m not saying that they will all go out, study Holistic Nutrition and start a practice. What I am saying is that if you look at health care practitioners, many have battled something at some point.
This is not meant to detract from your faith in your health care practitioner, but rather to inspire you. The point is that if those of us that spent a lot of time and money studying to be able to help you, needed help in getting it together, there’s no harm or shame in you needing some either.
Reach out and ask for help, instead of playing the blame game and trying to guilt yourself into eating the way that you think that you should eat. With all the information out there, it’s nearly impossible to make sense of it. The guys with Masters in nutrition are confused half the time, it seems. That’s why they’re always studying, doing studies and tests and doing what they can to learn more.
Remember that you can do it!
Cheers to your health!
