What you focus on expands…and I’m not just talking philosophically here ladies

Have you ever heard the phrase “what you focus on expands”?  When I started to really do a lot of work on myself, this was something that came up a lot.  Lately, I’ve been thinking about this pretty consistently.  I have some clients that are doing all the right things to lose weight and yet it just isn’t coming off.

If they were working with a dietician they might look to see if the ratio of carbohydrates to fat to protein was correct (and I’m not saying that substituting fast burning carbohydrates for slow burning ones isn’t a technique that I might employ) however, with a Certified Health Coach, we look at things in another way.

See, it’s not just about what you eat, it’s about how you FEEL.  You could be eating all the right things and not seeing the results that you expect, because all you’re focusing on is how you HAVEN’T been able to lose the weight and how frustrated you are.

Think about this – what would it mean if you lost the weight?  I had a client a few years ago that was losing weight at an amazing pace and then just stalled.  When I asked her what she thought might be going on, she said “I’m almost at the weight that I was at the last time I was in a relationship”.  Talking about it a little more we discovered that she just wasn’t sure if she was ready to handle the extra attention from men that she was getting as she was slimming down.  She was afraid of getting hurt.

Many of us hang on to baggage for many reasons, this might not be yours.  But, what is?  Sometimes the extra weight functions as a barrier from others in the world.  Who hurt you? What are you scared of?  What are you protecting yourself from?  On the other hand – why are you comfortable at this weight?  How is being uncomfortable serving you?  Do you feel deserving of living the life you are imagining for yourself?

Think about it.

Cheers to your good health!
